about

We drove to Dawson through a cold snap in early November. Sunny, clear skies, we hit a low of 34 out near Henderson - it was gorgeous, six hours of relentless stark feral beauty.
For us, playing Peggy's is like coming home; we played our first ever show there, almost exactly three years earlier. They treat us well, and we love it there, sipping on port in the Salon de Repentigny.
We recorded that night on a new r24, using the built in condensers with a 58 on each amp. 'Polaris' was the second piece of the evening. We left the gear set up overnight as we had asked to record in the empty bar the following day.
We reconvened at the crack of noon and 90 minutes later had recorded four long pieces. Originally 'and Cut' and 'Roll Credits' were part of the same, and we later chopped 'Frozen Landscape' in to the three chunks. 'Thin Ray' is an attempt at 'Polaris', from the previous night. The fourth piece, 'Uchu Butokai' (Japanese Space Disco), was of sufficiently different character that we eventually axed it. Like 'Polaris', 'FutureCop' is a cut from the previous night, hence the chatter and Bobby shaking cocktails in the background.
We sliced out the shup of a beer can, but otherwise, there are few edits and no overdubs - this is the music we created in those moments. It is the soundtrack of a Northern landscape in the early harsh of winter. Except for FutureCop, which is the soundtrack to a cop show from the 80's.

Long on levity, short on brevity, Jennihouse subscribe to the dictum why say it in three minutes when you can say it in fifteen. ... more
